SThree Japan wins 2 TIARA awards

Sthree K.K.

On 17th November 2021, SThree Japan wins two TIARA Awards – The Healthcare & Life Sciences Recruitment Company of the Year and The Best Large Company to Work for. We are also nominated for another two awards as a finalist, which are The IT & Technology Recruitment Company of the Year and The Growth Company of the Year.

The TIARA Awards (formerly known as the Recruitment International Awards) is the biggest and longest-running recruitment industry event globally. They hold annual awards to recognise innovation and best practices in the Japanese recruitment industry. It was unfortunate the award didn’t take place in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic, but we are very happy to see the annual event coming back this year in a virtual format.

Real Life Sciences, A Trading Division Of Sthree K.K.

What makes us “The Healthcare & Life Sciences Recruitment Company of the Year”

As a world pure-play recruitment company focusing on the STEM markets, SThree operates four different specialist brands in Japan. One of the brands is Real Life Sciences, whose key focus industries are pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices and diagnostics.

It was the second time for us to be recognised for this award, but our healthcare & life sciences business has seen a tremendous growth since we won this award for the first time in 2018. The growth is represented by 58% of headcount increase while keeping close to 100% retention in 2021, as well as record-breaking performance. This achievement was made possible by a variety of investments we have made. We’ll introduce two major investments below;

Investment to our communities: We fully understand the value of professional communities within the niche industries. Therefore, we’ve been sharing our insights through webinars, monthly newsletters that targets specialised professionals such as pharma or QA/RA audience, and partnerships with local and international conferences such as ICPM, DIA, Interphex, and Health x Digital which is hosted by ACCJ.

Customer-centric approach: Our expertise in the industry, specialist consultants with in-depth knowledge with the latest industry trends, and dedicated services have recognised by both clients and candidates. We received “Top Agent” from Abbott in 2019, “Best Recruiter” from Medtronic in 2021 by adding an exceptional value to their business through our recruitment support and “Best Agency” from candidates by achieving highest number of placements with Recruit Direct Scout (formerly known as Career Carver), a Japanese job portal focusing on high-quality candidates.

Charles Breen, Associate Director of Real Life Sciences states that “2021 has been a great year for Real Life Sciences’ growth in Japan. We have focused on hiring people who match our core values of integrity and perseverance. This has paid off handsomely as we consistently deliver a high-quality customer journey for everyone we engage with. I am proud to lead a division of hard working, sincere, and focused professionals, and I am pleased that their dedication has been recognised by the team at TIARA with this award. Congratulations to the whole Real Japan team!”

What makes us “The Best Large Recruitment Company to Work For

Since we won The Growth Company of the Year in 2019, SThree has committed ourselves to become the No.1 STEM talent provider in the best STEM markets in Japan. While this required in-depth research on our focus markets to enhance our business strategy and development, we never stopped believing in the importance of building a strong company culture, as hiring, training and retaining the best talent is the key to our success as a business.

The investments that have been made include;

  • Our newly developed Hybrid Working Policy that offers our employees an option on where and how they work depending on their needs and preferences
  • Our newly launched SThree Academy, where up to 16,771 courses are available 24/7 across all experience levels
  • Our Yen-for-Yen programme where SThree sponsors part of employees’ self-development costs including gym memberships, personal development seminars and language lessons
  • Allowance of 5 days of caregiver leave annually which can be used to care for your spouse, children, or elderly parents as we understood that the pandemic has caused many unnecessary circumstances to arise
  • Our global mobility programme that enables employees to move to another office for experience. Since 2019, we’ve successfully supported 4 employees in their move from Japan.
  • Our strong incentive schemes that evaluate efforts and success of our people

These investments that were made during the covid-19 pandemic period helped us to become a better, more diverse and more inclusive place to work. As a result, we achieved a variety of people related milestones in 2021, such as;

  • 32% increase in our headcount
  • Japanese representation on a leadership increased level from 9% to 38%
  • 329% increase in female representation
  • 50% of staff hired in 2021 is from our employees’ referral. This proves that our company is a workplace where our people proactively recommend their friends to join

Our Managing Director, Chris Reilly expresses his excitement by saying “It’s a very satisfying moment for us as it truly showcases our growth over the last few years. Since first entering these awards in 2014, shortly after starting our launching our business in Japan, we’ve been lucky enough to pick up accolades for ‘Best Newcomer’, ‘Growth Company of the Year’ and now ‘The Best Large Recruitment Company to Work For’ this year. We still feel like we are early in our journey and there are plenty of great things to come – watch this space as we endeavor to become the standout supplier of STEM talent to STEM companies in Japan.
