SThree’s ESG team have won the American Staffing Association (ASA) Elevate award. This award recognises career development programs that promote equity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers and registered apprenticeships for transitioning service members, veterans, and their families.
The team received the award for their work on the ‘STEM Equity Coalition’. Based in the US the programme works closely with community partners to provide opportunities for people in underserved communities who are interested in a STEM career.
SThree was one of only two companies in North America to be recognized amongst the other Elevate winners and Maria Brown-Spence, ESG Community Programme Director at SThree said:
“For many underrepresented groups in STEM, it can feel overwhelming to the “first” or the “only in their academic programs of professional positions. Additionally, the lack of representation among faculty members and a lack of cultural awareness by internal leadership can be intimidating for employees.
Our vision for the STEM Equity Coalition is to ensure that underrepresented groups have access to mentors, professionals, and personal development opportunities. We do this by partnering with like-minded corporate and nonprofit partners, working to ensure the STEM sector truly becomes more diverse and inclusive. In 2022, we have provided over 100 aspiring STEM professionals with community programming to support their career aspirations.
I am looking forward to furthering our work, in the hopes of decreasing systemic challenges and discriminatory practices, within the STEM ecosystem.”
