SThree has teamed up with Earthly, a platform that connects companies to high-quality nature-based solutions, to continue its commitment to carbon removals and being a climate-conscious business.
The partnership allows the only global pure-play STEM staffing specialist to support projects that remove carbon, restore biodiversity and support local communities.
SThree has been working on reducing its carbon footprint and investing in carbon removals for over a decade. Furthermore, it reduced its carbon emissions by 44% in 2021 in a bid to reduce the environmental impact of the business.
Gemma Branney, Head of ESG for SThree, said: “We’re delighted to announce an innovative partnership with Earthly, who enable us to contribute to projects that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Earthly makes it easy for us to see the exact impact that our investment in grassroots nature-based projects are having on people and the environment.
“The world needs to achieve net- zero, meaning all businesses must review their environmental impact and transition plans, and SThree is no different. This partnership allows us to develop our longer-term strategy, which is aligned to carbon neutrality.”
What projects is SThree supporting?
So far, SThree has helped two projects through their partnership with Earthly. The International Small Group & Tree Planting Program (TIST) and Planting Mangroves in Madagascar.
TIST works with farmers in Kenya to provide them with technical training on how to integrate tree planting with their farmlands. This allows them to protect their crops from extreme weather events, increase biodiversity and receive carbon revenue from planting native trees. Our work with TIST has supported farmers to plant trees on 1,078,000 square metres of land to date.
SThree has also helped plant over 2000 thousand mangrove trees in Maroalika in Madagascar. Mangroves store more carbon than traditional forests and provide multiple benefits to coastal communities like storm protection and water filtration. Moreover, each tree removes around 308kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere throughout its life cycle.
What impact do these offsetting projects have?
Although this is a new partnership, SThree has already removed 1402.70 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere through its projects. That’s the equivalent of removing the footprint of 11 million kilometres driven in a car, 350,675 cheeseburgers or 5,611 hours flown by plane.
