This year the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is focused on the role of women in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Although they remain underrepresented, many women are at the forefront of world-leading research in the areas of sustainability and science. These inspirational individuals have forged ahead and stand as inspiration and role models for what women in science can achieve in the fight to build a better world.
There are many more inspiring women in science who could have made this list, doing great things in STEM across the world. Although the balance is gradually shifting, men still far outnumber women in these industries – showing how much work there is still to be done.
